The College of Wooster's Garrett Crum and Dan Harwood, who both ranked in the top five nationally in RBI for the 2018 season, were named to the D3baseball.com Preseason All-America Team, as announced by the popular website on Thursday afternoon. Harwood was a second-team selection while Crum was an honorable mention pick.
Harwood tore the cover off the baseball in his first season as a regular starter, and had his season culminate with second-team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com. A consensus selection to the all-region first-team and a first-team all-conference honoree, Harwood finished the year with 72 RBI, one behind the Div. III national leader, while within program history, that ranked as the fifth-most in a single season and was Wooster's first 70-plus RBI season since 2009. Harwood ranked fifth nationally with 14 home runs, 12th with 59 runs, and 17th with 74 hits.
Crum earned first-team ABCA and second-team D3baseball.com all-region honors in 2018 and was elevated to the all-conference first-team. The smooth-swinging right-hander ranked fourth nationally and second within the NCAC with 69 RBI, a total tied for the seventh-most in program history. Crum tied for 17th nationally and second in the NCAC with 74 hits. He was 36th nationally with 114 total bases and was the 41st-hardest player to strike out thanks to only having 11 strikeouts in 234 plate appearances.
The D3baseball.com Preseason All-America Team is chosen from the previous year's All-American and all-region nominations.
Additionally, Wooster starts the year in pole position in Collegiate Baseball's Preseason Top 40 Poll. Wooster's 285 points were four better than University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's total, while Swarthmore College, Trinity University (Texas), and Misericordia University rounded out the top five.
D3baseball.com's Preseason Top 25 Poll is expected to be released on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
