The College of Wooster's Dan Harwood carried the eighth-ranked College of Wooster baseball team to an 8-7 win over longtime Mideast Region rival Marietta College on Wednesday, and his efforts in that game were recognized by the North Coast Athletic Conference, which tabbed the junior designated hitter as its NCAC Hitter of the Week on Monday.
Harwood was unstoppable in the Fighting Scots' lone game of the week, as the junior slashed 1.000/1.000/3.000 during a 3-for-3 afternoon that saw him launch a pair of home runs and drive in five. The smooth-swinging left-hander lifted a payoff pitch out to left center for a go-ahead, three-run round-tripper in the fifth, and added a solo shot in the third.
In three games since moving back to designated hitter, Harwood's 9-for-13 with 12 RBI, seven extra-base hits, and six runs scored.
Noteworthy, this is the second straight year Harwood's efforts in the Scots' home lid-lifter landed the slugger as the NCAC Hitter of the Week. Coincidentally, he went yard twice in the 2018 home opener.
Harwood, and his Wooster (7-4) teammates, are back in action against Hiram College (4-10) on Wednesday, April 3. First pitch from Art Murray Field is set for noon.
