Senior Spencer Williams, who is among the all-time leaders in scoring in the tradition-rich history of The College of Wooster men's basketball team, was named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region First-Team, the popular website announced on Tuesday.
Williams, who capped his final season in a Fighting Scots' uniform with a career-high 16.3 points per game, provided a consistent presence in the scoring column by reaching double figures in 27 of Wooster's 29 games. Williams logged seven 20-point games on the year, including matching his career-high with 25 points against The College at Brockport, State University of New York in the championship game of the Mauro Panaggio Tournament, and again against then-undefeated Emory & Henry College in the championship game of the E.M. "Mose" Hole/Wooster Kiwanis Classic.
Williams' uptick on the stat sheet wasn't limited to scoring as the Warrensville Hts., Ohio native turned in career-bests in rebounds (111), assists (85), and blocked shots (10), while also matching a career-high in steals (31). The 6-2 guard logged 11 games with at least five rebounds and 11 outings with at least four assists.
The all-region honor marks Williams' second, as he was a second-team selection as a sophomore. He's the eighth Scot to earn multiple all-region accolades from D3hoops.com since the website began naming a team at the conclusion of the 2001-02 season.
The senior's 1,644 points are the seventh-most in program history, and he's in the program's top-15 all-time in career field goals, 3-pointers, and free throws.
This season, Williams helped lead the Scots to their 22nd consecutive 20-win season (22-7) and a Div. III record 16th NCAA Tournament appearance in a row. The two feats rank as the second- and fifth-longest active streaks respectively among all NCAA divisions of men's basketball.
