The College of Wooster's Christian Santos, who led the Fighting Scots with a game-high 11 tackles during the Black & Gold's 24-10 upset win over Wabash College on Saturday, was selected as the North Coast Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Santos set the tone defensively with his co-team-leading second interception of the year on Wabash's first drive, and it marked the third straight game Wooster's logged a pick on its opening defensive series. The mathematics major spilled Wabash's Liam Thompson for a four-yard loss on a first-quarter third-and-8 play, in what marked the second of an eventual seven sacks recorded by the Scots' defense in the win.
Santos is the second Scot to win the NCAC's weekly award this season.
Noteworthy, Wooster's win marked the program's first over Wabash since 2004.
Next, Wooster (3-2, 2-2 NCAC) takes on Denison University (4-1, 3-1 NCAC) at home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 19.
