DANVILLE, Ky. – The College of Wooster field hockey team and regional power Centre College were scoreless at the half, but the Colonels struck for an early third-period goal and went on to top the Fighting Scots 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at South Campus Field.

Centre (4-0), which came into the game fresh off a 12-goal outburst on Saturday, kept Wooster's (2-1) backline on its toes from the start. Junior 'keeper Katie Shideler turned aside a pair of shots within the first 5:03, while the likes of first-year Lucy Agurkis and seniors Emma Hambright, Grace O'Leary, and Harriet Sudduth helped keep the bigger scoring chances at a manageable level over the first 30 minutes. During that span, the Colonels fired off 12 shots, just four of which were on target.

The Colonels, two seasons removed from being a quarterfinalist in the NCAA Div. III Championships, scored their first goal in the 33rd minute. Megan Commes inserted a penalty corner, which eventually worked its way to Savannah Elpers, who finished the feed from Caroline Brotzge for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

In the 48th-minute, a second Elpers-from-Brotzge goal made it 2-0, while in the 49th minute, Elpers returned the favor by assisting on Brotzge's third scoring tally of the season.

Wooster's best offensive looks came in the final seven minutes of the game. The Scots had a penalty corner in the 54th minute, while junior Maggie Brown's shot was turned aside by Centre's Kristen Mulcahy in the 58th minute.

Shideler finished with a season-high 14 saves.

Wooster will look to get back on track when its four-game road swing continues at Ohio Wesleyan University (3-1) at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14.
