The College of Wooster's Cameron Gelwicks made his debut at the NCAA Div. III Championships on Thursday with a 49th-place time of 21.43 in the 50 freestyle.
Gelwicks, who still has two events left to swim at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C., had a strong showing within his prelim heat, as the senior standout's time was the third-fastest among eight competitors.
Gelwicks placed ahead of seven competitors overall, and gained significant NCAA experience in advance of Thursday's 200 freestyle, where he's seeded 15th of 39, thanks to his school-record time of 1:39.19 at last month's North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
The senior is also scheduled to compete in Saturday's 100 freestyle.
