Emma Lawrence scored five goals to lead The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team to a 15-5 win over Division II Ursuline College on Saturday in a game hosted at Wooster High School.
The win moved the Scots to 9-0 as they match the 1975 team for the best start in program history. This was the third all-time meeting between the Scots and the Arrows as the Scots have yet to lose to the Division II school from just outside of Cleveland.
Lawrence needed just eight shots to tally her five goals, and she got the Scots on the board in just over 30 seconds off an assist from Jenny Grossman. Lawrence scored the next goal about four minutes later when Laura Papp found Lawrence for the score.
Ursuline (3-5) got on the board with consecutive goals in a three-minute span to cut the deficit to 5-2. However, Wooster answered with back-to-back goals in a span of 30 seconds from Caitlyn O'Connor and Lawrence.
Grossmann tallied her first score towards the end of the half as Wooster entered halftime with an 8-2 lead.
The Scots had another strong start by opening the half with goals from Lawrence, Grossmann, Ashley Boersma and another goal from Lawrence.
Alexa Mellis would get in on the scoring with two late second half goals, and Healy would cap the game with another goal for herself.
O'Connor and Grossmann each had two assists to lead Wooster. Katie Shideler picked up her eighth win behind four saves.
Wooster found themselves in control for the majority of the contest. They were perfect in 18 clear attempts and outshot the Arrows 33-18.
This was Wooster's final non-conference game of the season. They will take a 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference record into their next game when they host Oberlin College next Saturday.
