Wooster's senior trio of Brian Lief (145), Jackson Feinknopf (140), and David Westcott placed in the top four among the Div. III runners at the season-opening Wooster Invitational.

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's cross country team's veteran senior trio all placed within the top four among Div. III harriers, while the women's team's top four featured a mix of veteran experience and promising youth at the season-opening Wooster Invitational hosted by the College on Friday evening at L.C. Boles Memorial Golf Course.

On the men's side, senior David Westcott led the charge for Wooster with a seventh-place clip of 21:39.8 in the four-mile race, and he missed out on the top five by 6.3 seconds. Worth noting all six student-athletes ahead of Westcott were Div. II harriers from Malone University, a squad which finished seventh at the 2017 NCAA Div. II Midwest Regional.

Classmate Jackson Feinknopf's 21:45.2 was good for a ninth-place showing, while senior Brian Lief crossed in 13th-place at 22:13.7. Junior Miki Rae wasn't far behind, with his 22:20.3 earning a top-15 showing.

Senior Hyuga Uchida snuck into the top-25 with a 23:07.8, while senior Simon Weyer crossed less than two seconds later at 23:09.4.

Senior Emani Kelley logged a triumphant return to the cross country course with a ninth-place time of 15:50.4 in the women's 4,000-meter race, as did classmate Collier Summay, whose 16:23 ranked 17th in the field. Both student-athletes missed last season due to studying abroad.

In between the Fighting Scots' senior captains, first-years Kayla Bertholf and Isabelle Hoover impressed in their respective debuts. Bertholf's 15:52.3 earned the rookie a 10th-place showing, while Hoover cross the finish 12th at 15:58.3.

Junior Audrey Cordova and sophomore Emma Busch rounded out the Scots in the top-25. Cordova finished 22nd at 17:06.7, while Busch also came in with the pack of runners just over the 17-minute mark at 17:09.5, and was 24th.

Next, Wooster travels to the Otterbein University Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15.
