The College of Wooster women's tennis team picked up its first North Coast Athletic Conference win of the season by defeating Wittenberg University, 7-0.
Â
Playing on the outdoor tennis courts for the first time this spring, the Scots benefited from Wittenberg's four-player roster. Wooster took automatic wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights as well as the No. 3 doubles flight.
Â
That meant Wooster needed just one more doubles win to start the match, but they got two. The No. 1 team ofÂ
Sasha Riley andÂ
Elizabeth Meiners won 6-3, while the No. 2 team ofÂ
Abby Williams andÂ
Lauren Richmond won 6-1.
Â
Wooster also had little issue in singles play, starting with Meiners in the No. 1 spot, taking a clean 6-0, 6-0 win. Each flight featured a 6-0 set as Williams won at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0, Riley won at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2, and Richmond won at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0.
Â
Wooster moves to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They return to action Sunday with another NCAC matchup, hosting John Carroll University at 2 p.m.
