GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The College of Wooster women's tennis team wrapped up its season on Sunday with a 4-3 loss at DePauw University.
The regular season contest wound up being a matchup for the final spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. With a win, DePauw earns the sixth seed, and Wooster will see its season come to an end.
DePauw (8-14, 2-5 NCAC) got the important doubles win to start the match, taking the first and third flights. Wooster's
Abby Williams and
Lauren Richmond captured a 6-4 win in the No. 2 flight.
The No. 1 team of
Sasha Riley and
Elizabeth Meiners fell 6-1, and the No. 3 team of
Kamila Kadirova and
Elyse Errington lost 6-4.
In singles play, Wooster captured the top three flights but could not find the fourth point to steal the match away from the Tigers.
Williams earned her second win of the match at the No. 2 flight, defeating
Elle Loch 7-5, 6-3. Meiners got the win in the top flight with a 6-1, 7-5 win over
Katie King.
Riley gave Wooster its third point in the No. 3 flight with a comeback win and taking the 10-point tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (6).
Richmond took a 7-5, 6-1 loss in the No. 4 flight. Errington fell 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 flight, and
Jade Adkins lost 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 6 flight.
Wooster wraps the year at 6-12 overall and a 1-6 record in the NCAC.
