The College of Wooster men's golf team opened the 2026-27 season with its lowest round to par in decades and junior Rafa Tanjung played his way to medalist honors at the program's annual Gatorade Collegiate, which took place Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 6,733-yard Zoar Village Golf Club. Wooster placed second in the eight-team field with a 582, two strokes back of champion Mount Aloysius College.

Wooster opened with a 2-under-par 286 on Saturday, marking what is believed to be the program's first team under-par round since 1975, the year in which the Fighting Scots were the NCAA Div. III champion. Wooster's 286 is tied for the second-lowest team round since the national championship season, trailing the 2-over-par 282 the Scots turned in for the second round of the 2024 Westfield Collegiate Golf Classic, held at Westfield Country Club's par-70 North Course. From rounds available in College archives, the last under-par team round is believed to have occurred at a Kent State University tournament in 1975. At that event, Wooster shot at worst a 281, or the score could have been a 279, as players who played in events that season gave the appearance of a six-count-four format potentially being used in the regular season.

Tanjung captured medalist honors for the first time as a Scot, turning in a 3-under-par 141 for the Gatorade Collegiate. He went 3-under-par over the final 10 holes, taking the lead with a birdie on the par-4, 388-yard 16th hole. He pared the par-4, 340-yard 17th hole and navigated the par-4, 422-yard dogleg right No. 18 with a par to clinch the win over a trio of players at 2-under-par.  Tanjung signed for a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday. He opened the junior year with a collegiate-best 2-under-par 70. He drained a birdie on No. 18 on Saturday to cap a stretch of playing the final 12 holes at 3-under-par. Tanjung went 3-under-par on Zoar's par-5 holes on Saturday and went 5-under-par on them for the tournament.

Senior Andrew Carey tied for 10th with a 1-over-par 145. Carey's senior year started with a 1-under-par 71 on Saturday, and a birdie fest early on the back nine was a big reason why. He birdied the par-4, 425-yard 10th hole, sank birdie three of the day on the 544-yard 12th hole, and made quick work of the 495-yard 14th hole with yet another circle on the card. Carey was 1-under-par through 12 holes on Sunday and played 30 holes at par or better for the tournament.

Sophomore Musa Shariff tied for 19th with a 4-over-par 148. Shariff got to 1-under-par on Saturday's round through eight holes with three consecutive birdies. The first came on the 167-yard, par-3, sixth hole. He followed that with birdies on the par-5, 546-yard seventh hole and the par-4, 366-yard eighth hole. Shariff started Sunday's round at 2-under-par, dropping in birdies on the 409-yard opening hole and the 511-yard second hole. Back-to-back birdies on the 167-yard 15th hole and the 388-yard No. 16 had Shariff back at 2-under-par in Sunday's round. Shariff's Sunday 72 was two off a collegiate-best.

Sophomore Nunth Khamkhokgruad was Wooster's No. 3 scorer for Saturday's 2-under-par 286. He shot an even-par 72 Saturday and finished in 30th-place for the tournament with a 151. Khamkhokgruad was at 2-under-par through 17 on Saturday, dropping in late birdies on Nos. 15 and 17. He played 16 holes at par or better in the opening round. In round two, the sophomore signed for a 79. His 72 was a collegiate-best by a stroke.

Senior Jake Cammarata tied for 34th with a 153. His 1-over-par 73 rounded out the Scots' 286. Cammarata turned at even par on Saturday and dropped to 1-under-par with a birdie on No. 12. He played 26 holes at par or better for the season opener.

Sophomore Ryan Yoder led Wooster's B team with a 3-over-par 145. Yoder turned Saturday at 2-under-par en route to a collegiate-best 1-over-par 73. He closed with a 74 on Sunday, fueled by a 1-under-par back nine.
