W Association Board of Directors Expectations

The following responsibilities are specific to The College of Wooster W Association and are articulated for the purpose of complementing or clarifying certain aspects of the traditional advisory responsibilities of board members. Board members must sign a copy of the W Association Board of Directors Statement of Expectations upon their selection to the board. The expectations include:

1. Commit to the mission and goals of The College of Wooster and Wooster Athletics, and members of The College of Wooster W Association.

2. Contribute expertise and participate in the development of the W Association.

3. Attend meetings of the Board of Directors: There are twelve annual meetings scheduled for the second Monday of the month via zoom. Board members are encouraged to attend all (twelve) meetings, either in-person when scheduled or by telecommunication/video conference. Minimum attendance expected of each board member is one per quarter.

4. Prepare for meetings in advance: The W Association commits to sending materials in advance via e-mail, members commit to reading and considering materials in advance of meetings.

5. Attendance: If any board member is unable to meet the minimum attendance requirements, members may be encouraged to either revise their commitment or reconsider their position, so that the W Association may pursue other interested, prospective board members.

6. Serve on at least one committee and attend committee meetings: Board members are encouraged to attend all meetings of the committees on which they serve. However, attendance at (50%) of the meetings is expected at a minimum. Committees may include the list below, but not limited to the following:
    i. Hall of Fame
    ii. Alumni Engagement
    iii. Barrett Award
    iv. Board of Directors Nominations
    v. Ad-Hoc as determined by the President

7. Attend and actively participate in College of Wooster W Association special events, including, but not limited to, the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Alumni Engagement, Distinguished Alumni, Scotties, special events, and seasonal athletic events. In addition, the W Association seeks to grow opportunities to connect alumni with current students.

8. Personal Contribution to The Fighting Scots Fund: Every member of the Board of Directors is expected to make a personal contribution to the Fighting Scots Fund either to their financial ability or through obtaining donors. Occasionally, board members may be called upon for special project fundraising efforts.

9. Represent the Organization: Be familiar with and speak in support of The College of Wooster W Association, and allow his/her name to be used in support of the W Association’s mission.
