The College of Wooster men's soccer team closed its 2011 season on a positive note Saturday night, scoring a season-high four goals and registering its second victory in three games with a 4-2 decision over rival Wittenberg University in the North Coast Athletic Conference rivals match-up at Springfield, Ohio.
Wooster (6-9-1, 2-7-0 NCAC) set the tone with two scores within the opening 10 minutes. First, defender George Skelly drove in a goal for the second time in three matches just 4:28 into the action. Less than four minutes later, fellow sophomore Zach Jergan put in the first goal of his career via a header off a corner kick from Jonathan Fox.
Wittenberg (6-11-1, 2-7-0 NCAC) got on the board midway through the first half, then the defenses settled in as the Fighting Scots held on to the 2-1 lead through halftime, but about eight minutes into the second, the Tigers tied it up.
Wooster's Noah Wagemann would answer with goals during the 65th and 71st minutes, the first assisted by Fox. That spurt elevated Wagemann's team-leading goal total to seven for the season, while Fox's two helpers on the night gave him a team-high six assists.
Taylor Takacs picked up the win in goal, as the senior capped his standout career with seven saves. It also marked the final collegiate game for forward Josh Dailey and Fox.
