Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Balanced Offense, Stifling Defense Lead to 3-0 Victory at Oberlin

The College of Wooster field hockey team put forth a balanced and dominating performance at Oberlin College, utilizing goals from three different players and a stifling defense to notch a 3-0 victory over its North Coast Athletic Conference foe on Friday.

Wooster (9-9, 6-7 NCAC) fended off a series of early penalty corners by Oberlin (2-11, 2-10 NCAC), including Carrie Mount recording the first of her nine saves on the afternoon, then took advantage of its second corner on the offensive end. After passing the ball out to the top of the circle, Kerry O'Connor set up at the left post and tapped in a feed from Leah Prescott for her fifth goal and a 1-0 lead.

Despite firing off 18 total shots throughout the first half, the Fighting Scots were unable to build on that one-goal margin until the second. The Yeowomen's back line came up with a couple of defensive saves in addition to nine by their 'keeper during the opening 35 minutes alone.

Wooster's first insurance goal took place very early in the second half and again on a corner. This time, Anjela Galimberti started the play and tallied the goal, assisted by Kayla O'Connor.

Mount, who was credited with five stops during the second half, and the backfield, which featured an Emma Roderick defensive save, secured the win from there.

The Scots' Shelby Stone capped the scoring via an unassisted goal with 4:16 left.

Wooster will play its final regular season game next Saturday afternoon at first-place Kenyon College (14-2, 10-1 NCAC).
