Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Strong Defensive Effort Spoiled in Scots' 1-0 Loss to Gators

The College of Wooster's women's soccer team played strong defense, as it limited Allegheny College to just three shots on goal, but the Gators made one count late in the first half and then held on to nip the Fighting Scots, 1-0, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game Tuesday at Meadville, Pa.

Both offenses were slowed a bit due to steady rain showers throughout the majority of the contest, but the Scots (9-8-1, 3-4-1 NCAC) deserve credit for their efforts against the Gators' (13-5, 6-1 NCAC) potent attack. Allegheny came into today averaging eight shots on goal per game.

One of Wooster's best offensive chances came midway through the first half, when Carly Joliat served up a free kick that Crystal Chavez headed on net, but the goalkeeper made the save to keep things scoreless.

The Gators had a handful of scoring opportunities around that juncture, too, including one where Kimberly Seidell was positioned on the goal line and managed to clear away a would-be goal.

Shortly after that play, the Gators attacked again, this time in transition, and Faith Robinson sent a low cross from left-to-right that found trailing midfielder Hannah Zangara for the game's decisive goal.

Wooster only got off a handful of shots in the second half, including two from Katherine Tuttle, but one attempt sailed wide and the other was blocked by a defender. Chavez fired off one last shot for the Scots in the 82nd minute, but it went wide as well, as Wooster was held off the scoreboard for just the sixth time in 18 games this season.

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Clark made two saves, one each half, in the setback.
