Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tight Battle Tilts Yeomen's Way, 2-0, on Senior Day

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Oberlin College as part of "Senior Day" on Saturday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field.

Wooster (6-8, 1-4 North Coast Athletic Conference) trailed early after Oberlin's Jonah Blume-Kemkes headed home the game-winner off the feed from Griffin Burns in the 14th minute.

The header marked one of two Yeomen (5-7-2, 1-4 NCAC) shots in the first half while Wooster was limited to one, which came off the foot of first-year Max Hill.

Wooster nearly equalized just over eight minutes into the second frame after a deflection in the box left sophomore Ben Freiji with a short-armed tap-in that went straight into the arms of Oberlin goalkeeper Max Buri.

Speaking of 'keepers, senior Scot Stacho earned the start for the Black & Gold and did well to keep the Scots in contention with a diving save in the 81st minute.

Oberlin eventually went on to secure the match with an insurance tally in the 83rd, as Blume-Kemkes struck again, this time low and left from 20 yards out.

Sophomore Will Yakubik sported an opportunity to halve the deficit with a header off a bouncing cross in the 87th minute before Buri safely corralled the attempt.

The Scots were outshot 13-7, including 6-2 in shots on goal. Concerning corner kicks, Wooster held a 6-2 advantage.

Up next, Wooster travels to Hiram College (4-8, 2-2 NCAC) on Tuesday, Oct. 17, for a 7 p.m. start.
