Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Scots Fall 2-1 at Regionally-Ranked Ohio Wesleyan Behind Late Penalty Kick

An 82nd-minute penalty conversion denied a late comeback attempt by The College of Wooster men's soccer team as Ohio Wesleyan University topped the Fighting Scots 2-1 on Saturday night at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex in Delaware, Ohio.

Ohio Wesleyan (6-4, 2-0 North Coast Athletic Conference), the fifth-ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches Great Lakes Regional Poll, outshot the Scots (6-5, 1-1 NCAC) 22-3 on the night, yet found themselves level after 80 minutes of play.

The Battling Bishops struck first in the 35th minute after Isaiah Harris finished on the centering pass from teammate Matt Yingling.

Despite Ohio Wesleyan's significant shot total, only six found their way on target.

Down 1-0 midway through the second half, Wooster sophomore Manny Burton beat his man to a ball from first-year Max Hill and finished from close-range to equalize in the 74th minute.

Eight minutes later, a Wooster foul resulted in a Battling Bishops penalty kick, and Joe Brush converted from the spot to secure the win and deliver the Scots their first conference loss of the season.

The result marks Wooster's second consecutive 2-1 loss to Ohio Wesleyan.

Sophomore goalkeeper Will Collis ended with four saves while both Burton and sophomore Paulo Nunes landed shots on goal.

Up next, Wooster travels to Wittenberg University (2-7-1, 0-1-0 NCAC) on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a 4 p.m. kick-off.
