MEADVILLE, Pa. – The College of Wooster men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat at Allegheny College on Wednesday.
Allegheny collected its first North Coast Athletic Conference win in the contest to move to 5-11 overall and 1-7 in the NCAC. Wooster, in a crowded midfield of the conference standings, dropped to 9-7-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the NCAC.
Wooster struck first in the contest. They were awarded a free kick from about 27 yards out in the 12th minute, and junior Jack Whitehouse promptly put the ball in the back of the net. It was his second goal of the year.
Allegheny's Cliff Weaver made a run in the 40th minute and a deep pass stayed onside to find Cam Kaminski as the Gators made it 1-1. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Allegheny did not need long to take the lead for good as Kaminski again found the back of the net. He capitalized after a corner kick and after receiving a pass from inside the box.
Wooster tried desperately to even the score, taking 19 shots in the second half alone. However, nothing could get by Allegheny keeper Jack Barron-Sluga who made six games in the contest.
Senior Hamilton Schattgen made three saves in the loss. Wooster outshot Allegheny 25-7 and held the corner kick advantage 5-2.
Wooster will wrap up the regular season Saturday when they host Denison University.
