Scots Split Saturday Slate

ERIE, Pa. – The College of Wooster volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches at Penn State Behrend on Saturday, falling to the host 3-0, but defeating Penn State Altoona 3-2.

The Scots opened against Altoona for a 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 18-25, 15-11 win. Wooster aimed to complete the match in three sets but after Altoona won back-to-back 25-18 sets, Wooster needed the fifth set to secure the win.

In the fifth set, Wooster held a small lead most of the way but took over at the end. The two teams were tied seven different times in the set with the latest being 11-11.

From that point, Wooster won four straight to take the win with senior Amelia Mitchell serving for the last three points.

Mitchell broke the 11-11 tie with a kill before Wooster benefited from a pair of attack errors. Finally, Tamara Turner collected a kill off the assist from Emma Fleck to wrap up the match.

Turner and Jordan Laraway led the match with 11 kills, while Mitchell followed with 10. Fleck tallied a game-high 35 assists, and Lucy Kinser had a team-high 20 digs. Also, Catherine Muzilla had six service aces.

In game two, Wooster fell 20-25, 20-25, 17-25 to Penn State Behrend.

Turner and Mitchell each collected six kills to lead Wooster. Fleck added 21 assists, and Kinser had a game-high 23 digs.
