Game Recap: Softball |

Scots Sweep on Saturday as Spring Break Trip Ends

CLERMONT, Fla. – In their second half of its spring break trip, The College of Wooster softball team had a great day on Saturday, recording its first sweep of the trip, defeating Bowdoin College 7-2 and Nazareth University 9-1 (6 innings).

The Scots jumped out to an early lead against Bowdoin. Wooster got its first two runners on before Cate Barkdoll hit her second home run of the trip, this time to straight center field.

Barkdoll provided more offense in the fourth, doubling down the left field line for another two RBI.

The top of the lineup did the heavy hitting as Barkdoll, Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez and Julia Jennings combined to go 9-for-16 with six RBI. Griffin-Sanchez batted 1.000 for the second time this week, going 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, while Jennings went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Sophomore Lynnsey Delio got it done on the mound. She pitched six innings, allowing just two earned runs for the win.

In game two, Wooster again got out to an early lead and never let its foot off the gas, scoring in every inning but the third.

First-year Tori Conner pitched four innings of one-hit softball to collect the win. Between the two games, senior Rachael Dudziak pitched three innings of relief, allowing just one run.

Griffin-Sanchez stayed hot, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs scored, one double and one RBI. The three stolen bases also tied a school record, something she accomplished before in 2023.

Senior Kaydee Clark went 2-for-2, and Ella Wolff went 2-for-3 and each recorded an RBI.

Monday, however, was a different story. The Scots fell 15-7 in five innings to Worcester State University and then 11-1 in six innings to Grinnell College.

In the first game, Griffin-Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Junior Sarah Lodge went 2-for-2 with two doubles and Anna Norby went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Katie Mommers also added a double and two RBI.

In game two, Wooster's lone run came on an RBI groundout from Norby in the fourth. Grinnell hit two home runs that totaled five runs in the game.

Wooster goes 4-6 in Florida to move to 6-8 overall ono the season. They return to action this weekend with four games at home with doubleheaders against Case Western Reserve University and Muskingum University.
