Scots Dominate in Game One at OWU

DELAWARE -- The College of Wooster softball team split with Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday. They dominated game one, 13-1, but fell short of a game two rally in a 6-5 10 inning loss.

In game one, first-year Tori Conner pitched a complete game in five innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run.

Wooster broke open a 1-0 deficit with a six-run second inning, highlighted by a two-run double from junior Sarah LodgeStephanie Griffin-Sanchez and Julia Jennings each added RBI singles in the inning.

Griffin-Sanchez later had a two-run home run in the fourth and an RBI double in the fifth, falling a triple shy of the cycle. She ended going 3-for-4 with four RBI.

Wooster tallied 15 hits. Jennings was just 1-for-2 but recorded three RBI. Senior Kaydee Clark went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double.

At the plate, Conner went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

In game two, Wooster scored four in the seventh to force extra innings after trailing 5-1. Three singles brough home runs, and Lodge tied the game with a bases loaded walk.

Both teams had chances in extras, but Ohio Wesleyan got it done with a single up middle with a runner on third and two outs.

Conner took the tough loss, pitching the final 6.2 innings and allowing just one earned run. Senior Lilly McLendon pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

Wooster again got plenty of hits with 13 in game two. Senior Anna Norby led the charge going 3-for-5 with a double. Emma Hetkey, Lodge and Jennings each recorded two hits.

Of note, Griffin Sanchez's 236 total bases is a new career program record.

Wooster moves to 15-21 overall and 6-6 in the North Coast Athleltic Conference play. Ohio Wesleyan is 15-14-1 and 4-8 in the NCAC.

Next, Wooster will wrap up its regular season with a home doubleheader against Hiram on Saturday.
