Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Gutsy Effort Gives Scots the Win in Five

The College of Wooster volleyball team was able to overcome a near two-set deficit to take a five-set win over Ohio Christian University on Tuesday, 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9).

Wooster was at its lowest point in the second set, already down one set and trailing 19-11. However, once Wooster got control on senior Amelia Mitchell's serve, they did not look back.

Wooster rallied off nine consecutive points to take a 20-19 lead. Ohio Christian, a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, tied it at 20 before Wooster took the next five points to win the set, which included two aces from Catherine Muzilla.

In the third set, Wooster lost the first six points, which set the tone. Once again on Mitchell's serve, Wooster was able to tie it for the first time at 19-19 and take a 20-19 lead.

Yet, after being knotted at 21, Ohio Christian (9-9) would win four of the last five points.

Wooster got off to a better start in the fourth set, never trailing until being down 23-22. That was short lived, however, as the Scots won the final three points of the set.

Finally, in set five, Wooster was able to correct an early 3-0 hole and tied the set at five. From there, Wooster took control, winning the final set 15-9 to win the match.

Mitchell led Wooster with a game-high 20 kills, which tied a career best, which she set earlier this season. She also added five service aces.

Jordan Laraway and Tamara Turner each added 11 kills.

Sophomore Emma Fleck led the game with 43 assists. A trio of Scots led the way in digs as Muzilla, Lucy Kinser and Fleck recorded 14,13, and 12 respectively.

Wooster improves to 7-4 and have now won four in a row.

Next, Wooster will play four matches at a tournament hosted by Westminster College this weekend. They open playing Rochester Institute of Technology before playing the host Titans on Friday.
