The College of Wooster men's soccer team fell to John Carroll University 3-0 on Saturday.
The Blue Streaks, who received votes in the preseason coaches top 25 poll, were led by a three goal performance from fifth-year plyer Hayden Haffner.
Haffner broke the scoring open in the 40th minute after receiving a cross and connecting near the right post.
The final 20 minutes of play got intense as the Blue Streaks pulled away with a pair of goals in the 74th and 76 minutes. In addition, five of the game's six yellow cards were issued.
John Carroll did a successful job of playing keep away from the Scots in the second half, winding the clock down with passing at midfield. When they broke out and charged for an offensive attempt, Haffner made it work.
John Carroll ended up outshooting Wooster 12-3. Both teams took five corner kicks.
Wooster keeper Andrew Beazley made three saves in the loss.
The Scots will look to get in the win column next week when they take on Heidelberg University on Sept. 11 in the first of three consecutive road games.
