First-year
Tamarra Talbert turned in a big afternoon for The College of Wooster volleyball team during Saturday's 25-11, 25-16, 25-20 loss to DePauw University at Timken Gymnasium.
Talbert logged nine kills on 15 swings with one error for a .533 attack percentage. The nine kills marked the second-most by the first-year middle blocker. She added two blocks on the day, which matched junior
Kora Burill for the team lead.
Madeline Ozersky carried DePauw in set one, logging four blocks. The Tigers' front row standout was joined by
Kerry O'Connor on three of them. The four blocks, coupled with a .409 attack percentage by the Tigers as a team, kept the Scots from getting more than two consecutive points in the opening frame.
Wooster found success early in the second frame, forcing DePauw to take a timeout when it trailed 7-5. Back-to-back kills from first-year
Erin Ellis followed a backrow kill from junior
Natalie Hohman. DePauw rebounded with a 7-0 run coming out of the timeout that was ended with a kill from senior
Izzy Cozzie.
Talbert logged five of the nine kills in set three to keep Wooster within striking distance. One of the kills had Wooster within 17-13. Later, consecutive DePauw attack errors had Wooster behind four at 19-15, then first-year
Kennedy Muhlenkamp got a deflection on a continuation play that resulted in the ball hitting the court on the Tigers' side to make it 20-16.
Talbert's nine kills were followed by four each from Cozzie and Ellis. Sophomore libero
Catherine Muzilla led a trio of Scots in double figures in digs with 13.
Addison Hooker had 10 kills to lead DePauw's attack. Ozersky added seven kills to her six blocks. Libero
Grace Myers totaled 13 digs.
DePauw improved to 10-8, 2-1 North Coast Athletic Conference. Wooster fell to 4-13, 1-2 NCAC.
Wooster is back home on Monday, Oct. 13 for a 6 p.m. contest against Pennsylvania State University Shenango (10-7).
