After a first set setback, The College of Wooster volleyball team regrouped to defeat Penn State Shenango 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19) in non-conference play on Monday.
Junior
 Jordan Laraway and seniorÂ
Izzy Cozzie put up a game-high 12 kills. JuniorÂ
Natalie Hohman, acting as the libero, led the team with 19 digs and three aces. Hohman also added eight assists, while Cozzie contributed 17 digs.
Junior
 Kora Burill and first-yearÂ
Tamarra Talbert each collected five blocks, while first-yearÂ
Erin Ellis led the team with 21 assists.
Another first-year,Â
Kennedy Muhlenkamp, had a solid all-around performance with five kills, 12 assists and nine digs.
Penn St. Shenango (10-8) got 11 kills from bothÂ
Sydney Ward andÂ
Savana Shipman.
Wooster fell behind in the first set when the Nittany Lions turned a 14-14 tie to a 24-17 lead. However, Wooster would never have that bad of a stretch for the rest of the night.
In fact, Wooster started to put it together in the tail end of the first set, scoring six straight points to cut Shenango's lead at 24-23. Yet, a service error promptly ended the set.
Shenango led early in the second set, but Wooster managed to get right back into it with ties and 7-7 and 10-10. Wooster led 16-13 before a five-point run turned around Shenango's fortunes.
Yet, Wooster created some rallies of their own, with stretches of four, three and two point runs to capture its first set.
The final two sets were highlighted by some key moments from Wooster's reserves.Â
Evelyn Hackney andÂ
Ireland Oswick each got some looks at the net, finishing the match with four and three kills, respectively.Â
Wooster closed the third set strong with the final four points with kills from Cozzie, Ellis and Burill.
First-year
Bri Headen saw her first action in the fourth set and connected on a service ace in her second point played. She helped cut the Shenango lead to 9-8.
Wooster would take over with a three-point swing for a 15-14 lead. Again, it was another strong finish to the set, scoring nine of the match's final 10 points.
Hackney and Oswick each collected at least one kill in that span, as did Muhlenkamp. First-yearÂ
Caitlin Walsh-Knouff collected two aces, serving during the team's final five-point run.
Wooster (5-13) heads to Bluffton University for a pair of non-conference contests on Saturday. They face Berea College at 3 p.m. and Bluffton at 5 p.m.
