The College of Wooster cross country team had its final tune-up for the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Wilmington College's Jenna Strong Invitational on Friday.
Senior
Joe Ahmann led Wooster's men to a top-10 team finish. He covered the 8,000 meters championship length course in 26:53.3 to place in the field's top-40. Classmate
Zane DeMercurio was right behind, logging a 26:55.0 for 41st.
Sophomore
Basil Keck went 27:52.9 for 79th to rank as Wooster's No. 3 on the afternoon. Sophomore
Grant Mentzer's strong showing helped secure the top-10 team finish. His 28:29.5 ranked just outside the top-100 in the field. Sophomore
Andrew Rombach's 124th-place time of 28:57.5 rounded out the scoring contingent.
Senior
Reese Johnson (128th, 28:59.7) and junior
Nick Schade (133rd, 29:12.5) were others within Wooster's top-seven.
Cedarville University led 17 scoring teams on the men's side. Wilmington's
Tate Yoder went 25:28.6 to lead the field.
Just as she has all fall, first-year
Lauren Acker led the way for Wooster's women, covering the 5,000 meters course in 19:47.5, which was 24th in the field. Junior
Reeve Helvoigt was next, crossing at 20:54.7 for a 67th-place finish. Senior
Amy Gabrovsek was Wooster's No. 3, rounding out the field's top-75 placers with a time of 21:09.2.
Junior
Elise Wheeler checked in with a time of 21:55.9 for a 95th-place finish. She was followed by senior
Sylvia Direnzo, whose 23:23.5 was the 134th-place time and rounded out the scorers.
Wooster's top-seven also included junior
Naomi Kaczor (24:13.3, 154th) and junior
Wyn Caudle (25:19.0, 167th).
Div. I Eastern Michigan University led the 20 scoring women's collegiate programs. Wooster was 13th. Eastern Michigan's
Liv Hatch broke the tape with a time of 18:04.0.
The NCAC Championships take place at Kenyon College on Saturday, Nov. 1. The meet starts at 11 a.m.
