Wittenberg Trips Up Wooster, 2-0

Scots fall at home

Two second-half goals gave visiting Wittenberg University a 2-0 win over The College of Wooster field hockey team on Saturday morning at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wittenberg's Devyn Groves opened the scoring in the 38th minute, knocking in a shot from the middle, about 10 yards from the cage. The insurance goal came from Maddy Krasnow in the 51st minute. A long ball was played from the Tigers' defense end. Krasnow gathered possession, drove to the cage, and beat Wooster's defense for the score.

Wooster had the majority of the chances late, as seven of the Scots' 11 shots came in the fourth stanza. Junior Audrey McKenna and senior Natalie Katzenmeyer saw their attempts blocked en route to the cage in the 47th minute. That was the same fate when junior Melinda Lazenby fired a shot from the top following a penalty corner insert.

Later, junior Allie Toombs had a pair of good looks. The junior's first shot went just wide before the second was stopped by Wittenberg goalkeeper Essence Wyse. Following the Tigers' second goal, McKenna had a shot stopped by Wyse.
Senior Lizzie Hardy had Wooster's top look on the day, earning a one-on-one chance from the wing against starting goalkeeper Taryn Toburen. However, that shot went wide.

Wooster senior Cate Barkdoll had six saves on the day.

Wittenberg outshot Wooster 14-11 and had five corners to the Scots' four.

Wooster fell to 2-5, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Conference. Wittenberg moved to 1-8, 1-1 NCAC.

Next, Wooster travels to Delaware Valley University (3-5) for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
