COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The College of Wooster volleyball team traveled west to Colorado over fall break, but in their lone match in the Centennial State, Colorado College defeated Wooster 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-8) on Tuesday.
Wooster (4-12) played at its best early on with a 5-2 opening lead and challenging the Tigers throughout the first set. Wooster put together a string of three points to tie the set at 19, but at 20-all, Colorado (12-5) won four straight to establish set point.
Wooster got two points back with a kill from
Izzy Cozzie and a crucial block from
Mary-Catherine Werth and
Tamarra Talbert. However, that four-point swing from earlier became too much to overcome.
In the second set, consecutive kills from
Jordan Laraway gave Wooster some momentum, as Wooster led 11-10 at the midway point. Yet, that's when Colorado put forth a run Wooster just could not stop.
The Tigers won the next nine points and 13 of the next 14 to charge ahead 23-12 and eventually 25-14.
Colorado carried that into the third set, jumping ahead to a 12-4 lead and eventually taking the match.
Werth and Cozzie each recorded a team-high five kills. Laraway added three aces to her two kills.
Kennedy Muhlenkamp led the team with six assists.
Catherine Muzilla's eight digs led the Scots.
Next, Wooster returns home and returns to conference play to face off against DePauw University on Saturday.
