Women move to 4-1 after 85-47 win

TIFFIN - The College of Wooster women's basketball team reached 80 points for the third time this season, defeating Heidelberg University 85-47 on Wednesday to move to 4-1 on the year.

Junior Ace Sturdivant scored a season-and game-high 21 points to lead the Scots. First-year Pink Sturdivant followed with 14 points and sophomore Mackenzie Riccitelli added 11.

Senior Ella Biondi added four points, two blocks and a game-high eight rebounds, while junior Abby Henegar scored eight points off the bench.

Wooster (4-1) took control in the second quarter after the first 10 minutes saw them on the wrong end of a 15-12 score. Heidelberg (0-3) led by as many as six in the second before Wooster embarked on its best run of the game, scoring 12 straight.

Wooster tied the game at 19 and held the halftime lead at 31-22. Pink Sturdivant led the charge with eight points, while Riccitelli added six in the quarter.

The Scots ran away with a 30-12 third quarter. An 11-0 run widened the gap and Wooster led by 27 by the end of the quarter at 61-34.

This time it was Ace Sturdivant leading the way, scoring 13 of her points on 5-of-7 shooting in the quarter.

Wooster emptied its bench in the fourth and was still able to grow its lead. First-years Mya Rivera and Hailey Bergosh each added five points, both of which were season-highs.

First-year Savannah Weiss hit her first field goal and finished with four points. Classmate Ayden Rodgers scored her first collegiate points also.

The team totaled 54 points in the second half, which tied for third most second half points in program history.

Wooster shot 54 percent (33-61) from the court, 35 percent (7-20) from range and 67 percent (12-18) from the foul line. Heidelberg struggled, shooting 29 percent (14-49) from the floor, 25 percent (3-12) from 3-point range and 59 percent (16-27) from the foul line.

The Scots won the rebounding battle 44-29, and while the turnover margin was similar, the Scots scored 32 points off turnovers to Heidelberg's nine.

Wooster also won the battle of points in the paint, 42-22, second chance points, 18-6, fast break points, 11-4 and bench points, 32-20.

The Scots have won two straight against the Student Princes after a 73-64 win last year.

Next, Wooster heads to Columbus to take on Capital University (3-0) on Nov. 25.
