The College of Wooster volleyball celebrated
Izzy Cozzie on senior day Saturday in a regular season finale loss to Case Western Reserve University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-18).
Cozzie tied for the team's high in kills on the day with eight, along with junior
Jordan Laraway. Cozzie also put up 12 digs and one ace.
First-year
Kennedy Muhlenkamp led Wooster with 14 assists with classmate
Erin Ellis next at 11. Sophomore
Catherine Muzilla collected a team-high 19 digs.
In the first set, Wooster started off with a kill by
Tamarra Talbert and Cozzie's ace for a small lead. The set remained close before Case opened it up, and took its first lead on a four-point swing.
Case later expanded a two-point lead to eight at 19-11. From there, the teams traded points before a service error ended the set.
The Spartans kept their momentum in the second set, opening it with a 10-4 lead. Junior
Kora Burill scored a couple kills late but Case grew its lead wide enough to take the second set 25-12.
Finally, in the third set Wooster seemed poised to reverse its fortunes thanks to a three-point swing to go from trailing to leading at 15-13. However, after the teams traded a point Case went on one of its best runs of the day, scoring eight straight to take a commanding 22-16 lead and eventually the match.
Case (15-13) had a .238 attack percentage in the game, led by 12 kills from
Amanda Ngo. Elena Esquivel set a game-high 32 assists.
Wooster concludes the season at 5-21.
