HIRAM – Senior
Ella Biondi gave The College of Wooster women's basketball team a huge boost on Wednesday as the Scots knocked off a three-game slump with a 70-66 win at Hiram College.
Biondi recorded her first double-double of the season with a massive 21 points and 19 rebounds, shooting 10-of-16 from the floor. It was her fourth 20-plus point game of her career, and she tied a career-high in rebounds.
In addition, her five blocks were also a game-high and eclipsed 150 in her career, which is currently third in program history.
Three others scored in double figures for the Scots, who defeated their former conference foe to snap a seven-game streak against the Terriers.
Sophomore
Mackenzie Riccitelli scored 14 points on 6-of-16 shooting, while
Ace and
Pink Sturdivant each contributed 10 points each. The two sisters also combined for 13 rebounds and six assists.
Hiram (2-6) was led by a 17-point performance from
Isabella Caceres and a 9-point, 14-rebound game from
Maya Joiner.
The game was up for grabs with 24 lead changes until Wooster broke free late. When Hiram did lead, they only led by as many as two, while Wooster led by as many as nine late in the fourth.
Wooster did a lot of damage in the paint, outscoring Hiram 48-36 and outrebounding the Terriers 51-42.
Wooster (5-4) also held the slight edge in shooting at 40 percent (30-76) for the game, while Hiram shot 38 percent (26-69). Both teams made four 3-pointers and hovered in the 60 percent range at the free throw line.
The Scots had a coordinated attack in the first quarter with six different players scoring a field goal. Yet, they trailed 15-14.
The teams stayed even in the second quarter, as Hiram held its one-point lead at halftime, 28-27.
Biondi helped Wooster gain the advantage in the third with the team's first eight points in the quarter. Riccitelli hit a crucial 3-pointer to give Wooster a 41-40 lead, and Wooster led 45-42 after three quarters of play.
Finally, Wooster then had a 6-0 run late the fourth to give the Scots enough of a cushion to secure their fifth win of the year.
Wooster has two additional road games this weekend to close out 2025. They play at Bluffton University on Saturday and Earlham College on Sunday.
