Second-Half Run Not Enough for Scots in Lexington

Wooster falls 74-62

The College of Wooster men's basketball team's 13-0 second-half run pulled the Fighting Scots within striking distance in Saturday's 74-62 loss at Transylvania University.

Wooster pulled within 10 during its stretch that spanned 5:25 of game time. Senior Isaac Roeder deflected a Drew Marshall pass for his first steal of the contest. Following that, senior EJ Kapihe kicked the ball out to sophomore Si Kielian for an open 3-pointer that closed Wooster within 68-52 with 6:40 remaining.

Later in the run, Roeder cut off Marshall's drive to the rim. That resulted in the Pioneer guard having a mishap dribbling, ending with the ball skipping out of bounds. Following the turnover, senior Jaiden Cox-Holloway knocked down two free throws to trim Transylvania's lead to 68-58 with 2:53 remaining.

First-year Tommy Vaughn Jr. dropped in four points during the 13-0 stretch. The first two came on a driving left-handed finish at the rim. His other bucket was a step-back jumper from just inside the 3-point line that forced a Transylvania timeout at 5:35.

Wooster came out of the first half's third media timeout with a 6-0 run. Kapihe finished a spinning lay-in at the rim, then turned a deflection into a steal on the wing. Cox-Holloway cashed in the turnover with a floating jumper, then sophomore Breckman Oakley knocked down a turnaround jumper to get Wooster within 26-17 at the first half's 5:57 mark.

Cox-Holloway's 15 points led Wooster. He was followed by Oakley and junior Quincy Jones, who combined for 23 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Jones' seven rebounds led Wooster, while Roeder matched Oakley for the team-high in assists at four.

Wooster shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) for the game and outscored Transylvania's bench 20-9.

Hunter Barr led all players with 22 points. Jaxon Smith knocked down five triples en route to a 17-point afternoon.

Transylvania shot 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the floor and improved to 5-4.

Wooster is now 3-7 on the year.
