RICHMOND, Ind. – The College of Wooster women's basketball team found success from range on Sunday, taking its third straight road win and defeating Earlham College, 74-68.
Mackenzie Riccitelli followed up a 24-point performance from Saturday by finishing two points shy of her career high with 28 points on 10-of-23 shooting from the field. The sophomore was 5-of-11 from 3-point range and added three assists to her stat line.
Overall, the Scots shot 36 percent (11-31) from the arc and used their ability to connect from range to not only pull ahead early but to never trail over the course of the game.
Wooster's first three baskets were 3-pointers from
Ella Dean, Riccitelli and
Ace Sturdivant, which gave Wooster a quick 9-4 lead.
The Scots went 5-for-10 from deep in the first 10 minutes, which led to a 24-14 advantage. The middle quarters were decided by one-point each and when entering the final stanza, Wooster led 61-49.
Earlham (1-8) used a 6-0 run to begin the fourth to pull within six, but 3-pointers continued to go down for Wooster. Riccitelli stopped the initial run with a 3-pointer at the 8-minute mark and hit another with three minutes remaining to give Wooster a 69-60 lead.
Wooster was able to stretch its lead to as large as 11 with two minutes remaining, giving them enough of a cushion to hold on for the win.
Sturdivant posted her third career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also made six assists.
Junior
Abby Henegar scored a career-high 11 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor. First-year
Hannah Stroebe finished with five points and eight rebounds, while Dean made a pair of 3-pointers to finish with seven points.
Berkley Shelton scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Earlham. Also,
Amari Wright finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Leaving 2025 in the rearview mirror, the Scots find themselves at 7-4 almost midway through the season. Their first test back on the court will come Jan. 3 when they host Wittenberg University in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
