Game Recap: Softball |

Scots Get First Taste Of NCAC Play

The College of Wooster softball team were shutout in its home opener and first two North Coast Athletic Conference games against Wittenberg University on Saturday.

The Scots fell 8-0 (5 innings) in game one and 6-0 in game two.

Wooster (5-11, 0-2 NCAC) had just 10 hits and two extra base hits across both games while Wittenberg (16-4, 2-0 NCAC) collected 24 hits and five extra base hits.

In game one, Wittenberg pitcher Samantha Zungri pitched a three-hitter. Her only real threat came in the fourth with a one out single from Julia Jennings and a double from Cate Barkdoll. However, the Scots left them stranded on the basepaths.

It was just a 3-0 game through four innings before Wittenberg put up five in the fifth. First-year Jillian Meszaros was hurt again by errors as only three of the eight runs she gave up were earned.

Senior Sarah Lodge had the other hit in the game.

It was more of the same for Wooster in game two, not being able to get solid contact off Wittenberg starter Julie Hall. Hall went 6.1 innings, allowing seven hits before Lilly James recorded the final two outs.

It was another 3-0 game through four innings until Wittenberg plated three in the fifth. That chased starter Tori Conner, who finished allowing 11 hits and all six runs scored.

First-year Kaitlyn Hale saw action in both games and ate some innings for Wooster, allowing three hits and no runs in 2.2 innings of work in game two.

Emma Hetkey and Lodge each had two hits. Jennings and Meszaros each recorded a hit as did Brenna Haydu as a pinch hitter.

Next, Wooster will have another tough test ahead of them with a trip to Hiram College on Thursday.
