WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team held 13th-ranked Denison University to its third-lowest goal mark of the season and lowest score against a non-ranked team in Wednesday's 8-3 loss on Band Night at John P. Papp Stadium.
Wooster (6-6, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) allowed just one more goal than Denison (10-4, 5-0 NCAC) managed in March losses to then-No. 3 Salisbury University and then-No. 16 Amherst College.
Wooster got on the board when first-year Jack Holub found junior Lane Kellogg open on the Scot-up advantage with 1:27 remaining in the opening half. Sophomores Jesse Fisher and Evan Laudenslager found the back of the net for the Fighting Scots in the second half.
First-year Domenic Cuda played a big role in Wooster slowing Denison down, as he had four of the Scots' 10 caused turnovers on the night. Senior Aidan Hyatt added two caused turnovers. Denison was not super efficient during the second quarter, turning the ball over eight times despite a 5-of-5 mark on clears. On the night, the Big Red had 22 turnovers, two more than the Scots.
Denison's offense came in the first and third quarters, where seven of its eight goals were scored. Jack Moellering was the lone player on either side to net multiple goals on the night.
Denison won 12-of-14 faceoffs, led by an 8-of-8 ledger from Grant Larson, who cleaned up eight groundballs. Wooster's groundball leader was Cuda at four.
First-year Case Lowery was stellar in goal, stopping a collegiate-best 15 Denison shots. Andrew Albert had 10 saves for Denison.
Denison outshot Wooster 42-23 and had 38 groundballs to the Scots' 20. Denison was 19-of-21 on clears, while Wooster finished 17-of-25.
Next, Wooster is at DePauw University (5-7, 2-3 NCAC) for a noon game on Saturday, April 19.
