Strong Finishes Help Keep Scots in Third at NCAC Championships

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Ally Siewert and sophomore Abigail Haywood's strong closing stretches kept The College of Wooster women's golf team in third-place following two rounds of play at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship. Wooster shot a 342 on Saturday at the par-72, 5,870-yard Otter Creek Golf Course and saw rival Wittenberg University climb within three strokes of its third-place position.

Siewert played the final six holes at 1-under-par to get in for a 77, which matches her spring low. The fourth-lowest round of the day by the field started with three pars, and Wooster's No. 1 went on to turn at 3-over-par. Siewert's hot streak started with a par on the par-3, 143-yard 13th hole, and her first birdie of the day dropped on the par-4, 140-yard 15th hole. Siewert capped her second-to-last collegiate round with a birdie on the par-5, 511-yard 18th hole. She is in sixth at 157.

Sophomore Morgan Erdmann shot an 86 and is in 12th at 165. Erdmann's day started with a par on the par-5, 478-yard opening hole, and a second par went down for the sophomore on the par-4, 375-yard second hole. Erdmann sank birdie four for the tournament on the par-4, 333-yard ninth hole and played the par-5 holes at 1-over-par for the day.

Haywood signed for an 87 and is tied for 15th at 169. The sophomore played the final four holes at 1-over-par and had six pars on the back nine. In fact, Haywood scored a par on eight of the final 10 holes of the round, including the last three par-3 holes at Otter Creek. Haywood was 1-over-par on the day on par-3 holes.

Sophomore Paige Nicely rounded out Wooster's finishers with a 92. Nicely sits in 18th at 180. Nicely had a strong finish to Otter Creek's front nine, with pars on the par-4, 321-yard sixth hole at the 333-yard ninth hole.  

DePauw University's 312 cut into front-running Denison University's lead. The Big Red are just five strokes ahead of the Tigers at 619. DePauw's Becky Williams shot another even par 72 and carries a 10-stroke individual lead into Sunday's final round.

Sunday's action is slated to start at 8:15 a.m. for the women, with a hole 10 start. Wooster is in wave two, which goes off at 9 a.m.
