Chartrand Scores Late to Force Tie

Men's soccer stays unbeaten at 4-0-2

CLEVELAND - The College of Wooster men's soccer team scored a late second half goal to secure a 1-1 tie on the road in non-conference action against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday.

Case Western Reserve (4-0-1), who received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Division III Poll, took control of the ball early, rifling off three total shots, giving sophomore Eddie Glucksman a pair of saves.

Junior Adam Pluszczyk started the day's scoring for Case in the 18th minute off an assist from senior Camden Larson.

The Scots (4-0-2) regrouped on offense and had some looks, including one that went off the post in the 27th minute from sophomore Evan Peratopoulos. Wooster had a few other chances, most of which sailed high, and the Spartans held a one-goal lead at intermission.

The second half began rather uneventfully which lasted until the 75th minute. After an extended series of throw-ins and a corner kick that spanned over two minutes, senior Elliot Miller finally found junior Nathaniel Chartrand for the game-tying goal in the lower right corner of the net.

Case Western Reserve had its chances in the final minutes with a pair of corner kicks but its first shot sailed high. Two final attempts by the Spartans were blocked by the Wooster defense to preserve the tie.

Glucksman made three saves to outduel his Spartan counterpart, senior Bradley Winter, who had one stop. The remaining statistics were also relatively well matched as the Spartans held a slight edge in shots (12-9), shots on goal (4-2) and corner kicks (5-3).

Wooster continues its road stand on Wednesday at Baldwin Wallace University, looking to keep its unbeaten season alive.
