Nothing like being home for The College of Wooster women's soccer team who defeated Kalamazoo College 4-0 in front of a packed homecoming crowd on Saturday.
Â
Wooster, who moves to 4-0 at home, returned to Carl Dale Field after a New York road trip which saw them go 0-1-1. Meanwhile, Kalamazoo (6-2-1) entered coming off their first loss of the season, 1-0 to Elmhurst College, which was also the team's first allowed goal of the season.
Â
The Scots had little issue finding the back of the net on Saturday, and the scoring started immediately behind seniorÂ
Julia Struck, who was involved in the first two goals to start the match.Â
Â
First, Struck was led up field on a pass from first-yearÂ
Anna Slagle and promptly scored on the opportunity in the fourth minute. It was Slagle's first collegiate point, while Struck tallied goal number three on the year.
Â
Ten minutes later, Struck was working near the corner and found sophomoreÂ
Josie Bencic in front of the net for the easy score to make it a 2-0 game. It was Struck's first assist and Bencic's third goal of the season.
Â
Before the first half ended, first-yearÂ
Zoey Martin got into the scoring column with her second goal of the year. After Wooster deflected a clear opportunity, Martin found the ball and the goalie out of position to score near the left side of the box. Wooster took that 3-0 lead into halftime.
Â
Keeping the momentum out of halftime, Wooster made it a 4-0 game in the 49th minute. Slagle recorded her second assist of the game after placing the ball directly onÂ
Emeili Tarpy's foot, directing it into the back of the goal.
Â
For the sophomore Tarpy, it was her first goal of the season and second of her career.
Wooster kept the clean sheet up behind senior keeperÂ
Kameryn Nelson. Nelson made four saves.
Â
Wooster took 20 shots, while Kalamazoo took 13. Kalamazoo had nine corners to Wooster's seven. Wooster's four goals is a season-high.
Â
Wooster improves to 6-1-1 and will host Marietta College on Wednesday.
