The College of Wooster volleyball team hit .324 in the third set, but a late rally by Baldwin Wallace University denied the Fighting Scots' bid to extend to a fourth set in Tuesday's 25-11, 25-11, 25-22 loss at Ursprung Gymnasium.
Wooster had 13 kills and just one error on 37 third-set attack attempts. Junior
Jordan Laraway and senior
Izzy Cozzie combined for seven of the kills. First-year
Kennedy Muhlenkamp fed Laraway for consecutive kills that came during the Scots' 4-0 run that put Wooster up 9-7. Laraway was responsible for three of the kills during that stretch.
Later, Wooster turned to Cozzie on the attack, and back-to-back kills from the senior upped Wooster's lead to 17-11. Wooster was up 22-16 following
Ella Rogers' attack error. Baldwin Wallace scored the next nine points to preserve the sweep.
Baldwin Wallace dominated the first two sets, logging a 74.9 sideout percentage. The Yellow Jackets did not allow the Scots to get more than two consecutive points until the aforementioned 4-0 run in the third.
Cozzie led Wooster on the night with 14 digs, seven kills, and a 31-of-33 in-play serve receive ledger. Laraway followed with five kills. Muhlenkamp logged a double-double, thanks to passing out 14 assists and digging 10 Baldwin Wallace attack attempts.
Baldwin Wallace's
Lexi Smith finished 14 kills on 30 swings with one error for a .433 attack percentage on the night. Libero
Paige Contris added a match-high 16 digs.
Katarina Blazetic passed out 26 assists to pair with nine digs and five aces.
Baldwin Wallace improved to 6-8. Wooster fell to 3-10.
Next, Wooster opens North Coast Athletic Conference play at Kenyon College (1-13, 0-0 NCAC) on Saturday, Sept. 27. First serve is set for noon.
