Stoller's First Goal Lifts Scots Over Pioneers

Wooster wins in 1-0 battle

Junior Mia Stoller's arching goal in the first half was the deciding factor for The College of Wooster women's soccer team in a 1-0 victory against Marietta College on Wednesday.

Stoller put her shot just out of reach from the Marietta keeper, giving Wooster the 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. And in the evenly contested matchup, it was just enough to give Wooster the edge.

Stoller scored shortly after a throw in from Kelsey Maley. From there, the ball found its way to the feet of sophomore Tessa Keenan, who fed Stoller for the shot from about 20 yards out.

It was quite the goal for what would be Stoller's first as a Fighting Scot. For Keenan, it was her first collegiate assist, adding on to her first goal, which she achieved earlier this month.

It was a battle for 90 minutes. Wooster (7-1-1) had several decent looks, especially in the second half. They outshot the Pioneers 20-6 and held the corner kick advantage, 5-1.

Marietta (3-3-3), coming off a 2-1 loss to Mount St. Joseph University, had six saves from keeper Francesca Agliolo. Wooster's Lucy Carlin made three saves.

Wooster will wrap up its non-conference schedule on Saturday when Muskingum University comes to Carl Dale Field. The Scots will celebrate senior day as well.
