The College of Wooster men's soccer team stayed the course and it earned them their third consecutive win to start the season as they defeated Westminster College 2-1 on Thursday.
It took a trio of shots for Wooster (3-0) to break through for its first goal in the 38th minute. Shots from
Elliot Miller and
Robert Hillhouse were both saved before junior
Taylor Uszacki netted his first collegiate goal, capitalizing off the rebound of Hillhouse's shot.
However, four minutes later, Westminster's
Dylan Weiss scored off an impressive header direct from a corner kick. It was out of reach of Wooster keeper
Eddie Glucksman as the teams tied in the 42nd minute and took that score into halftime.
It only took a couple of tries for Wooster to hit the game winner in the 52nd minute, and both came off the foot of
Connor Shea. Shea's first attempt was saved by keeper
Aaron Snyder, but Shea followed through on the rebound to score his first of the year.
While it was a goal differential for most the game, Wooster dominated the time of possession and outshot Westminster 27-8. The Scots held off a late push from the Titans to preserve the win.
The Scots also held the corner kick advantage, 10-3. Snyder made eight saves for the opposition, which included four shots on goal from Shea, while Glucksman made three saves for the Scots.
This is Wooster's first 3-0 start since the 2010 season, in which the team opened the season by winning five straight. Now, after three consecutive home games, Wooster will hit the road for the first time on Saturday to take on Bethany College.
