Scots host St. Vincent at 1 p.m. Saturday

The College of Wooster football team plays at John P. Papp Stadium for the first time this season on Saturday, Sept. 13 when Saint Vincent College visits for a 1 p.m. game. Wooster is coming off a 59-35 loss at Wilmington College, while St. Vincent beat Hilbert College 28-7 in its season lid-lifter.

On The Air: MCTV produces Wooster's webcasts for home football games and shows the game on delay on Ch. 22 and Ch. 621 for Wayne and Stark County cable customers, who should check local listings for air times. Livestreams of Wooster home football games can be viewed for free at https://northcoastnetwork.com/wooster.

All-Time Series: Wooster and St. Vincent have met just once before, with that being a 27-21 Wooster win in 2012.

Last Meeting: Chase Ullman rushed into the end zone from 13 yards out, giving Wooster a 27-21 overtime win at St. Vincent during a back-and-fourth non-conference affair on Sept. 8, 2012. After being tied at 21 throughout the fourth quarter, the teams went to an extra session to determine the outcome. Wooster won the coin toss and elected to play defense first. The Scots drove St. Vincent back two yards on first town, followed by two incompletions, including a pass breakup by Girard Ogletree-Crawford near the goal line, and the Bearcats had to settle for a 44-yard field goal attempt on the muddy, wet natural grass. The kick had the distance, but was wide left. Facing a third-and-11, quarterback Richard Barnes scrambled for the first down, and two plays later, he handed off to Ullman on a counter to the right. Ullman took one step left, then got through the right side of the line, and had a wide hole to the end zone for his first career touchdown.

Offense Notes: Junior quarterback Michael Boyle (Pennsubrg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) logged the 45th 300-yard passing game in program history at Wilmington. His 362 yards marked a career-high and were the fourth-most across Div. III for the opening weekend. Tate Journell (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) logged a career-high 177 receiving yards, a total that went in the books as the sixth-most within Div. III for the opening week. His 177 yards are just shy of a top-10 spot in program history, which is currently shared by Chris Cabot (Kenyon College, 1999) and Brandon Good (Ohio Wesleyan University, 1996) at 183 yards.

Defense Notes: Senior defensive back Brock Sivon (Perry, Ohio/Perry) returned to the starting lineup after missing the 2024 season with injury. He made 13 tackles in his return to the field, a total tied for 25th across Div. III on opening weekend. Wooster sophomore defensive back Charlie Scoggin (Midway, Ky./Sayre School) had the team's first takeaway on the year with a third-quarter interception at Wilmington.

Special Teams Notes: First-year Nolan Hendricks (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon Washington) debuted as the Scots' do-it-all placekicker, kickoff specialist, and punter. Hendricks averaged 31.8 yards per punt on the opening weekend, an average that currently ranks third within the North Coast Athletic Conference.

This and That: St. Vincent College is the annual training camp site of the Pittsburg Steelers. Wooster has won four of its last five home openers. Wooster last played a team from the Presidents' Athletic Conference in 2022 when Wooster opened the year with a 33-25 win at Geneva College.
