Senior
Evie Sanford upped an already-held school record in the shot put, and that was one of eight first-place finishes turned in by The College of Wooster track and field team at Saturday's Fighting Scots' Invitational.
Sanford's best shot put measured 42 feet, 11.5 inches and it is currently tied for the 14th-best within Div. III this winter. The senior won Saturday's event by a little over three feet. The senior's previous school record was 42 feet, 4.75 inches from 2024. Sanford was a double-winner on the day, claiming first in the weight throw at 45 feet, 6.25 inches.
Four of Wooster's first-place efforts came in women's field events.
Sarah Hiestand cleared the crossbar at 8 feet, 10.25 inches to win the pole vault by six inches. Junior
Claire Davis went 30 feet, 5.75 inches for top honors in the triple jump. Senior
Sophia Mellis secured a fifth first-place finish for Wooster's women with a time of 2:31.05 in the 800 meters. Mellis' first-place time was the best by a little over two seconds.
Wooster had three of the top four finishers in the women's mile. Junior

Anaya Brady were third and fourth in the 200 meters with times of 28.81 and 30.75, respectively. First-year
Aubrey Duggan was fourth in the 400 meters (1:12.43) and sophomore
Eilidh Horn went 2:59.83 for fourth in the 800 meters. Elsewhere, Tarpy went 13 feet, 11.75 inches for runner-up in the long jump, Brady's 4 feet, 8.75 inches was the third-place clearance in the high jump and junior
Cheyenne Wentz cleared 6 feet, 10.75 inches for fourth in the pole vault.
On relays, first-year
Eliana Cozzie, senior
Izzy Cozzie, Davis, and Tarpy raced to the runner-up time of 1:49.44 in the 4x200. Duggan, senior
Amy Gabrovsek, Cozzie, and Mellis went 4:34.91 for runner-up status in the 4x400 relay.
The mile and 200 meters marked Wooster's strongest events on the men's side. Sophomores
Grant Mentzer and
Andrew Rombach posted near identical times en route to a one-two finish. Mentzer's 4:53.58 edged out Rombach's 4:53.93. Senior
Charlie Cuttino's fourth-place time of 4:59.40 rounded out the trio in the top four. In the 200 meters, junior
Nate Chartrand broke the tape with a 23.45. Classmate
Robert Hillhouse backed that up with the third-place time of 23.73 and junior
Cooper Norwell was fourth at 24.12.
Senior
Rob Mays III was a big point producer for Wooster. His 46 feet, 6.54 inches won the shot put and he was the top collegiate finisher in the weight throw at 48 feet, 7.5 inches.
On the track, first-year
Max Kollhoff went 2:03.06 for runner-up honors in the 800 meters. First-year
Jalen Mitman (55.12) and senior
Jake George (55.25) were top-four finishers for the Scots in the 400. Senior
Essaie Mezmur (5 feet, 10.75 inches), junior
Zephan Deal (5 feet, 7 inches), and senior
Anthony Gomes (5 feet, 5 inches) all placed within the top four in the high jump.
Wooster's 4x400 relay comprised of George, Chartrand, Mitman, and senior
Reese Johnson capped the meet with the runner-up time of 3:41.38. Junior

Franklin Adu-Baah, junior
Cam Sentieri, and Norwell went 1:35.68 for third in the 4x200 relay.
Denison University's women scored 89 points, while Wooster was right behind with 84. Kenyon College's 76 points rounded out the team standings. On the men's side, Wooster (79 points) finished behind Kenyon (90 points) and Denison (88 points).
