North Coast Athletic Conference co-leading Ohio Wesleyan University hit .343 on Wednesday evening to sweep The College of Wooster volleyball team 25-13, 25-16, 25-17 at Timken Gymnasium.
Wooster worked its way to within one deep into the third set at 17-16. A couple of Wooster multi-point swings were sandwiched around an
Abby Nulph kill for the Battling Bishops. Kills from Wooster seniors
Kora Burill and
Jordan Laraway, plus three Ohio Wesleyan service errors, trimmed the Battling Bishops' lead from 15-11 to 17-16. However, a 6-0 run from the Battling Bishops followed with back-to-back kills from
Anna Kenealy pulling Ohio Wesleyan to within closeout distance on the scoreboard.
In the second, Wooster led early, as Ohio Wesleyan sent consecutive attacks way too long at the onset. Wooster's early lead expanded back to two when Burill and junior
MC Werth stopped
Natalie Dieball at the net. However, Ohio Wesleyan's 10-2 stretch at set two's midpoint pulled the Battling Bishops ahead 15-8.
An early Ohio Wesleyan run had the guests out to an 8-1 lead in the first before Wooster turned to sophomore
Caitlin Walsh-Knouff for back-to-back kills from the outside. She went on to lead the team with nine.
Werth followed Walsh-Knouff with five kills, while sophomore
Kennedy Muhlenkamp passed out 17 assists. Junior
Catherine Muzilla led Wooster with nine digs.
Dieball topped all players with 12 kills. Libero
Avery Krause kept 19 Wooster attacks alive and had nearly 40 percent of the Bishops' digs. Elsewhere, Nulph was in on four of Ohio Wesleyan's seven blocks and the Battling Bishops logged a sideout on 66 percent of Wooster's serves.
Ohio Wesleyan is now 12-8 this fall and remains tied atop the NCAC standings with Wittenberg University at 4-0. Wooster dropped to 9-11, 1-3 NCAC.
Next, Denison University (7-14, 1-3 NCAC) is in town on Saturday, October 24 for a 2 p.m. match. Prior to first serve, Wooster will honor its senior class.
