Scots Resume NCAC Play in Indiana

Wooster swept by DePauw

North Coast Athletic Conference action resumed for The College of Wooster volleyball team, which fell 25-13, 25-15, 25-20 on Friday evening at DePauw University inside the Neal Fieldhouse.

Sophomore Caitlin Walsh-Knouff's strong season continued, as the lefty finished 10 kills for her seventh double-digit total over the Fighting Scots' last eight matches. In all, it marked Walsh-Knouff's 10th outing of the year reaching the double-digit mark in kills. Six of Friday's 10 came in the second set, a frame in which Wooster hit .273. The Scots found success elsewhere with junior MC Werth, who had three of Wooster's other six kills in the frame. Junior Catherine Muzilla's seven digs in set two cooled DePauw off to a .316 attack percentage for the frame.

In the first set, DePauw regularly finished its attacks, scoring kills on 12 of 21 swings with just two errors. Sophomores Ireland Oswick and Tamarra Talbert teamed up for a block on one of the Tigers' two miscues in the frame, while offensively, senior Kora Burill led the charge with a co-set-high three kills for the Scots.

Walsh-Knouff's 10th kill of the night pulled Wooster within 23-18 in the third, then the Scots were back within five when the Tigers committed a cardinal sin of a service error on set and match point. Oswick followed the statistical blemish with a kill to make it 24-20 before a Wooster attack error clinched the sweep for DePauw.

Oswick followed Walsh-Knouff's 10 kills with six. Muzilla finished with 14 digs. Senior Emma Fleck passed out 11 assists in her first start of the year at setter.

Madelin Ozersky led DePauw with nine kills. Addison Hooker led the Tigers with 11 digs, while Julia McWaters had the offense clicking with 24 assists, and 60 percent of her set attempts on the night ended with Tiger kills.

DePauw ran its record to 12-4 and 2-1 within the league. Wooster is now 7-9, 1-1 NCAC.

Next, Wooster is off to Oberlin College (2-10, 0-1 NCAC) for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday, October 14.
