The College of Wooster women's soccer team's run in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament was cut short on Wednesday after a 3-2 loss to John Carroll University in the semifinal.
Â
In a blink the top-seeded Scots saw whatever momentum they had vanish as John Carroll scored three goals in a span of about five and a half minutes. That erased a 1-0 deficit and it was enough to hold on for a win.
Â
Wooster established the lead in the 30th minute thanks to juniorÂ
Annie Henegar's seventh score of the season. Henegar gave Wooster momentum when she intercepted the ball from midfield and rushed all the way downfield, beating a defender and having her shot get past the Blue Streak keeper.
Â
Aside from the goal, the first half was played fairly even. Both teams took four shots, and both keepers had one save.
Â
While the conditions were wet from the start, the rain stayed away for the first half but returned at halftime. Thirteen minutes into the second half, John Carroll kept finding ways to score.Â
Â
First,Â
Abby Walker got deep into Wooster territory, and thanks to a cross fromÂ
Gracie Villwock, was in a great position to hit the equalizer in the 58th minute.
Â
Evie Coutris then gave John Carroll back-to-back scores on a pair of headers. The first came off a corner kick in the 60th minute withÂ
Andrea Quintero Delgado on the assist. The second came when a cross hit off a Wooster defender and Coutris was in the right place in the 64th minute.
Â
Both Walker and Coutris picked prime opportunities to score, each scoring their first goals of the season.
Â
Wooster picked up its offensive pace in the later stages, outshooting John Carroll 10-5 in the second half. The Scots got one back in the 89th minute fromÂ
Bella Crompton when she scored off a direct free kick that mirrored her game-winner against Kenyon College last week.
Â
However, Wooster was unable to get a better look in the final minute and a half.
Â
The Scots outshot John Carroll 14-9. Both teams took six corner kicks.
Â
SeniorÂ
Lucy Carlin made two saves. Her counterpart,Â
Madison Skeese, made six.
Â
Wooster finishes at 11-4-3 on the year. John Carroll improves to 6-8-4 and will await the result of the semifinal at Denison University where the No. 2 Big Red take on No. 3 Kenyon.
