Wooster Concludes Season at CWRU

Laraway serves up four aces

The College of Wooster volleyball team's season wrapped up on Saturday evening at Case Western Reserve University, where the Spartans took the match from the Fighting Scots 25-16, 25-21, 25-8 at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

Senior Jordan Laraway served up a quartet of aces, three of which came consecutively in the second set to stake the Fighting Scots to the early 4-1 lead. She was at it again the next time at the service line, with ace four of the set bumping Wooster back ahead 11-10. Wooster built an 18-16 lead in the second behind its sophomores, as Ireland Oswick and Tamarra Talbert connected on back-to-back kills. CWRU turned to Maya Zarow from there, as she had three kills during the Spartans' 7-1 stretch that enabled the hosts to take control. A late kill from sophomore Caitlin Walsh-Knouff had Wooster within 24-21 in the second, but a bad set made it 2-0 Spartans.

In the first, CWRU's hot attack kept the hosts ahead, as the Spartans hit .417 in the opening frame. Wooster pulled within 18-13 on a Walsh-Knouff kill, but the Scots were unable to string more than two consecutive points together in the lid-lifting set.

Walsh-Knouff led Wooster with six kills to finish just shy of 250 for her sophomore season. She was followed by Talbert's five kills. Sophomore Kennedy Muhlenkamp passed out 21 assists to go with four digs. Laraway's eight digs led all Wooster players.

Zarow was CWRU's go-to, putting away 16 kills on 26 swings with two errors. She added six digs and two blocks. Sienna Olson was equally as effective, logging eight kills on 14 swings in two sets.

CWRU hit .391 for the match, while Wooster hit .141.

CWRU carries an 11-16 record into the University Athletic Association Tournament. Wooster concludes its season at 10-15.
