KALAMAZOO – The College of Wooster women's tennis team came up short of an undefeated weekend on Sunday, falling to Kalamazoo College, 7-0.
Wooster fell just shy of the doubles point, picking up its lone win in the No. 2 flight behind a 6-2 victory from
Jade Adkins and
Abby Williams.
Elyse Errington and
Lauren Richmond fell 6-1 in the No. 3 flight, while
Sasha Riley and
Elizabeth Meiners could not embark a comeback in a 6-4 loss at No. 1.
In singles play, Wooster went down in straight sets in each match until Adkins, in the last match of the day, pushed her opponent in the No. 6 flight to a 10-point super tiebreaker but ultimately lost 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7).
At the No. 1 flight, Meiners took a 6-1, 6-1 loss, while Williams fell 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 flight.
Riley lost 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 flight, and Richmond put up one of the better performances in her 6-4, 6-2 loss at the No. 4 spot. Errington had a similar showing as Richmond, falling by the same 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 5 flight.
Wooster moves to 1-2 on the season, while Kalamazoo moves to 2-0 after a successful weekend of play.
Next, the Scots will host the University of Mount Union at Aspen Racquet Club on Feb. 8.
