Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Holub, Cuda With Big Performances In Win

Wooster defeats Adrian 23-8

WOOSTER - Sophomore Domenic Cuda tied the program's single-game record and became the eighth player in program history to record 50 career caused turnovers in his young career as the College of Wooster men's lacrosse team topped Adrian College 23-8 in non-conference action inside John P. Papp Stadium.

Sophomore teammate Jack Holub almost rose to the top of the program record books as well for his individual performance. Cuda caused 12 turnovers, tied with alumnus Casey Steffen's 2023 mark for most in program history. Cuda tied for the third-most caused turnovers in a game in Div. III history. Meanwhile, Holub was just one short of tying the single-game goal record, doubling his career-high mark with eight scores.

It was a rather balanced offensive attack for the Scots (2-0) as junior Sam Green and senior Lane Kellogg both chipped in hat tricks. Kellogg also dished out a game-high six assists. First-year Owen Thompson had a matching two-goal, two-assist outing.

On the defensive side of the field, Cuda led the way with 15 groundballs. Senior Owen Bosland was next with six scoops and additionally won 18-of-28 faceoffs. Junior John Allen Ginder had a strong all-around performance with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

For Adrian (0-3), senior Austin Selvage accounted for most of the Bulldogs' offense with four goals and two assists. First-year Braeden McNamara was the groundball leader with five and accounted for another Adrian goal. Senior Tyler Ristau caused four turnovers and snagged four ground balls.

Four different goalies saw action in the cage, two for each team. Sophomore Case Lowery made the start and earned the win for the Scots with eight saves. First-year Dylan Geary made three saves, his first of his career.

Sophomore Josiah Karnehm started for Adrian and stopped a game-high 16 shots in the loss. Junior Owen Smith entered in relief and made two saves.

Adrian netted the game's first goal just a few minutes into the beginning of action, but the remainder of the first period was all Wooster. Holub earned his hat trick early, scoring the Scots' first three goals to kickstart a 5-0 run across the rest of the quarter.

The Bulldogs found success in a man-up situation early in the second frame, halting the Scots' run. However, Kellogg found the back of the net just eight seconds later. Adrian found its answer in Selvage but then Wooster ripped off another 5-0 run and held a 11-4 advantage at intermission.

Wooster's offense was balanced and clicking on all cylinders throughout the third period as seven Scots found the back of the net. Holub then found the gear he had in the opening frame and went off for two goals and an assist in the closing period to help propel Wooster to the victory.

The Scots held the offensive advantage in shots (70-30) and shots on goal (41-19). Clears were nearly even as each team was within one in terms of successful clears, Wooster at a 17-of-19 rate.

Adrian led in saves (18-11) and were successful in 3-of-8 man-up opportunities to account for half its goals. Turnovers and caused turnovers were more tightly contested with the Scots holding a slight advantage in both (20 compared to 26 and 18 compared to 12).

Wooster also dug up 23 more groundballs than the Bulldogs, 54-31.

Wooster will stay at home on Feb. 25, to take on Otterbein University in non-conference action at 6 p.m. inside John P. Papp Stadium.
