Day one of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships is in the books, and The College of Wooster track and field program was led by its distance medley relays at Wittenberg University's Steemer.

Zane DeMercurio held off Wittenberg's relay for eighth, edging the Tigers out 10:44.02 to 10:44.50. On the women's side, junior

Reeve Helvoigt raced to the eighth-place time of 13:59.13.
Wooster just missed scoring in the women's weight throw and pole vault, as seniors
Evie Sanford and
Sarah Hiestand logged ninth-place finishes. Sanford measured out at 43 feet, 8.75 inches for her top weight throw. Hiestand matched a season-best, clearing the crossbar at 9 feet, 8 inches.
Senior
Rob Mays III was a little off his career-best of 48 feet, 7.5 inches in the weight throw. However, his 47 feet, 0.25 inch best toss was still in the ballpark of
Spencer Wilson's school-record mark of 49 feet, 10.5 inches from 2019.
Other top performers for Wooster's men were sophomore
Franklin Adu-Baah in the 60-meter dash (7.08), senior
Joe Ahmann in the 5,000 meters (16:09.30), junior
Nate Chartrand in the 400 meters (52.40), first-year
Tyler Frye in the 800 meters (1:59.25), junior
William Harris II in the long jump (18 feet, 11.75 inches), and sophomore
Dasebre Ofosu-Manu in the 200 meters (22.58).
Adu-Baah came the closest yet to
King Jeju's school-record time of 6.85 from 2024. Ahmann's oversized-to-flat conversion time for the 5,000 meters marked a collegiate-best, and the same came be said for Frye's 800 time and Ofosu-Manu's 200 time.
Junior
Claire Davis was the highest placer for Wooster's women in the preliminary heats, as her 11.39 in the 60-meter hurdles was 11th. First-year
Eliana Cozzie went 8.29 in the 60-meter dash and 27.25 in the 200 meters, while sophomore
Emeili Tarpy was the top Scot in the 400 meters (1:02.61) and long jump (14 feet, 6.75 inches).
Cozzie's times were collegiate-bests, as was Tarpy's in the 400 meters.
Wabash College (men) and John Carroll University (women) are the current leaders.
Saturday's field events start at 10 a.m. and track events follow at 2:30 p.m.
